Their children are:   Dr. Hal R. Sessions, III and his wife Marilyn of Portland, OR,  Betty Sessions of Fayetteville, AR, Jamie Murphy and her husband Larry  of Ovilla, TX, and, Lynn Cloninger Sessions, widow of Paul Meek Sessions who tragically preceded his mother in death in August of 2009.   Her parents were James Mitchum Peace and Emma Yocum Peace of Magnolia, AR.   Her brother, James Frances Peace and her sister in law,  Mrs. Floyd Bunker Sessions, also preceded her in death.  She is survived by brothers in law Floyd Bunker Sessions and William Nelson Sessions of Lake Village, Arkansas, sisters in law Jeannine Tushek Sessions of Lake Village, and Alvarene Green Peace of Magnolia, AR, the 11 grandchildren and one great grand daughter.

Alvin Reynold Meyer Jr.

Alvin Reynold Meyer, Jr., age 65, died Monday, July 5, 2010 at home.  He is survived by his wife, Carol Turnage Meyer, and their four children: Marlys Meyer Brown (William) and children Web & Benton; Alvin Reynold Meyer III (Jill) and children Caroline, Catherine, Mary Patton & Reyn; Carol Cashion Meyer Doolittle (Jeffery) and children Prentiss & Cashion Riley; and Lollie Meyer Hayles (Jason).  He is also survived by his two sisters, Shirley Meyer Bell and Lollie Meyer Rosen.  Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Morrice Meyer and Alvin Reynold Meyer, Sr.

Born in Lake Village, Alvin lived his entire life in the Grand Lake area as the owner-operator of SAL Ranch farm.  After attending the University of Arkansas as a Sigma Chi, he married his college sweetheart, and together they had four children.  Community contribution was important to him, and he took great pleasure in serving others in any capacity whether it was member, president or dishwasher extraordinaire.  Some of his past involvements include Mainline Health Systems Board of Directors, Eudora Christian Charities, Southeast Arkansas Levee Board, Arkansas Livestock & Poultry Commission, ASCS County Committee, Chicot County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Eudora Bank Board of Directors and the Delta Cattlemens Association.

Alvin’s joy in life was giving to others, and he believed that investing in the well-being of another could never be a mistake.  He was always willing to help those in need and was particularly attuned to those he might afford a “hand up” in life.  A noteworthy example was taking 7th grade young men from Eudora Jr. High School to Washington, D.C., in order to broaden their horizons and expose them to successful adults with similar backgrounds. Alvin was a true Good Samaritan.  He visited the local nursing homes so often that people thought he worked there.  His outreach to shut-ins, widows and widowers, strangers, stranded travelers and people of all kinds was all done quietly with no fanfare, but with the dignity and love that befitted the recipients of the outreach.  His hospitality is legendary.  Alvin opened his home to all – friends, family, mission teams, school groups, churches of any denomination and local fishermen for a cold drink on a hot day.  It was not uncommon for him to call his wife at 11 a.m. to say that he had just invited twelve people for lunch!

When Alvin reflected on the successes of his life he never failed to praise God.  He was a man of gratitude, forever thankful for all his blessings, and steadied by Psalm 103:1-2 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name.  Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.”  Alvin’s personal relationship with Christ was his foundation, and he enjoyed sharing that with others through the everyday testimony of his life.  Even after his rare illness was diagnosed, he thanked his Lord for each day he was given and continually reminded those around him that “God is good!”

Nothing pleased Alvin more than to be surrounded by his family.  His wife, children and grandchildren were the center of his life, and he was rarely seen without at least one of them.  As a husband, father and grandfather “Moo” he was the perfect combination of strength and gentleness.  The evidence of Alvin’s overwhelming love is the family who adores him still and will strive to carry on his legacy.  To say that Alvin was larger than life is a vast understatement.

A celebration of Alvin’s life will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Village, AR.  The family will receive visitors immediately following in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Amyloidosis Research, Dr. Morie Gertz, c/o Mayo Clinic, 200 SW First, Rochester, MN, 55905; St. Mary’s School in Lake Village, AR; St. Joseph School in Greenville, MS; or Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
