Cleter C. “Buck” Varner, age 67, of Eudora, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at his home. He was a retired supervisor for the Corps of Engineers and a farmer. He was born November 15, 1941, in Eudora, the son of the late William R. Varner and Inez Smith Varner. He was an avid gardener and hunter and was a member of Ross Van Ness Community Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Inez Varner, by a sister, Ovelia Brown and by 2 brothers, Guy Varner and Thomas Varner. Survivors are his wife,
Anna Hosak Varner of Eudora; 2 sons, Donnie Varner of Eudora and Greg Varner of Farmington, Missouri; a daughter, Connie Harris of Farmington, Missouri; 7 sisters, Pauline Haley of Eudora, Estelle Turnage of Ferriday, Louisiana, Martha Bradford of Eudora, Cherry Dawson of Clayton, Louisiana, Daisy Ashcraft of Oak Grove, Louisiana, Glenda Graves of Poplarville, Mississippi and Vickie Sullivan of Transylvania, Louisiana and 7 grandchildren.
Mr. Varner will lie in state at Northside Baptist Church in Eudora with visitation starting at 5:00 P.M. Thursday, July 2, 2009. Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. Friday at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Heath Harris and Rev. Kenneth Watt officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home.
