Verna Williamson Norris, age 98, of Lake Village, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. She was born October 24, 1911 in Bernice, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Lloyd Elijah Williamson and Dora Foust Williamson.
She was a graduate of Ruston High School and Louisiana Tech University. She was the employee of Charity Hospital as Director of Special Diets while teaching classes of diet and nutrition for student nurses in Shreveport, Louisiana.
She is preceded in death by her husband Gordon Norris; a sister, Ona Mae Blondin; and a brother J.D. Williamson.
She married the late Gordon Norris in 1937 and moved to Lake Village, AR. Mrs. Norris was actively involved in the community with PTA, Lake and Plantation Garden Club, Century Club, and especially Lakeside United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Some of her hobbies were playing bridge, golf, and one of her greatest joys was flower gardening.
She is survived by a son, Andy and Karen Norris of Lake Village; a daughter, Elizabeth Shannon of Sheridan; six grandchildren, Mike and Jennifer Shannon of little Rock, Kelly and Jim Johnston of Tulsa, OK, Leigh and Michael Smith of Fayetteville, Ashley and David Johnson of Cleveland, MS, Drew and Stephanie Norris of Lake Village, and Paul Norris of El Dorado, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Bishop Funeral Home, in Lake Village. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeside United Methodist Church in Lake Village on Friday, January 15, 2010. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Lakeside United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 192, Lake Village, AR 71653. Arrangements were made by Bishop Funeral Home of Lake Village.
